The Contextualizer is a satirical browser extension that adds humorous modifiers to mentions of certain public figures on the web pages you view. We built it to be funny, not to know anything about you. This policy explains—in plain language—exactly what the extension does and does not do with data.
What we collect: nothing
The Contextualizer does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There are no accounts, no logins, and no user profiles. We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, advertising, or any third-party telemetry. We do not know who you are, and we don’t want to.
What we store: nothing
The extension keeps no database and saves no data about you or your browsing. It uses no cookies and no browser storage.
What happens on your device
All of the extension’s work—finding names on a page and inserting satirical modifiers—happens locally, inside your own browser, on the page you are already viewing. The content of the pages you visit is never sent anywhere.
The one network request we make
To avoid running on sites where it shouldn’t (for example, sites that break when text is altered), the extension downloads a small, public text file listing website addresses to skip. This file is hosted on GitHub. This request contains none of your browsing history, the pages you visit, or any personal information—it simply retrieves the list. As with any file loaded from the internet, GitHub’s servers may record standard technical log data (such as an IP address and browser type) when delivering the file; that logging is GitHub’s own and is governed by GitHub’s Privacy Statement. The extension itself neither reads nor retains that information.
Permissions, explained
The extension requests access to the pages you view. This access is used for one purpose only: to modify the visible text of a page so the jokes can appear. It is not used to read, collect, or transmit anything.
Payments
Purchases are handled by our payment processors (Gumroad for direct sales; Apple for the Mac App Store). We never see or store your payment details. Their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies.
Children
The Contextualizer is intended for adult audiences. It contains satire and strong language and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, we’ll update the effective date above and post the revised version at this address.
